Software Engineer – AI Automation & LLM Systems

About the role

We are building AI‑native SaaS tools that automate document processing, compliance checks, and report generation for land‑development consultants. As a Software Engineer focused on AI automation, you will join a fast‑growing, industry‑backed startup and work directly with the founders to ship real‑world features each week.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver intelligent automation workflows that process emails, documents, and forms using large language models (LLMs).
• Integrate and maintain production‑grade connections to OpenAI, Anthropic, and similar APIs, handling prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), and vector search.
• Develop user‑facing AI features, gather consultant feedback, and iterate rapidly.
• Translate ambiguous user problems into clear, high‑impact product decisions without a dedicated product manager.
• Help establish data‑model patterns, API design standards, and AI system architecture as the team scales.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience building and shipping production software, proficient in Python or TypeScript.
• Hands‑on experience delivering production AI applications with LLM technologies, including RAG, embeddings, vector databases, prompt engineering, and AI agent workflows.
• Proven track record of designing, deploying, monitoring, and optimizing AI features used by real customers.
• Legal right to work in New Zealand.
• Comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, extreme ownership, and clear communication.
