Site Lead – Hydro Operations

About the role
Mercury is seeking a Site Lead to own the operation of the Maraetai and Waipapa Power Stations. This senior, site‑based position is responsible for health & safety, budgeting, availability and overall performance of the hydro assets, supporting Mercury’s goal of being New Zealand’s leading renewable electricity generator.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, develop and mentor both direct and indirect team members, ensuring wellbeing and safety on‑site.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, dam safety and environmental regulations.
- Conduct comprehensive asset risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
- Prioritise routine maintenance work using a CMMS and manage backlogs.
- Develop and manage site‑based budgets and asset reliability programmes.
- Sponsor and prioritise project work, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Engineering or NZCE Electrical/Mechanical qualification (or equivalent).
- Significant experience in plant operations, process control or heavy‑industry maintenance.
- Proven leadership ability with a track record of inspiring teams.
Required skills
- CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) proficiency.
