Site Engineer – Retaining Structures Project

About the role

We are seeking a Site Engineer to join our civil construction team on a major retaining structures project in the Wellington region. You will work closely with the Project Manager, engineers and site crews to deliver the works safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support site teams to deliver works in line with programme, specifications and client requirements.
• Assist with survey, set‑out and construction verification activities.
• Coordinate resources, subcontractors, materials and plant to support project delivery.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Compile and maintain quality‑assurance records and project documentation.
• Measure and record quantities, subcontractor progress and production data.
• Maintain project records within Procore and other project‑management systems.
• Assist with inspection and test plans, schedule inspections and record results.
• Support environmental, health and safety and quality‑management requirements.
• Carry out site inspections, audits, meeting minutes, photographic records and reporting.
• Assist with estimating, quantity take‑offs and procurement activities.
• Support cost control through purchase orders, invoice checking and job‑cost tracking.

Required profile

• A qualification in Civil Engineering or a related construction discipline.
• Previous experience as a Site Engineer within structural construction.
• Exposure to retaining walls, geotechnical, structures, earthworks or infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of QA processes, site documentation and construction methodologies.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Confidence working with site teams, subcontractors, consultants and clients.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to take ownership of your work.
