Site Engineer

About the role

Downer is seeking a Site Engineer to join its Wellington team. This hands‑on position will see you supporting project delivery, collaborating closely with site crews, and ensuring technical and schedule targets are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing project methodologies, budgets and construction programmes.
• Support contract management to meet client expectations, focusing on safety, quality and environmental compliance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with client representatives.
• Identify and help resolve contractual issues, variations and compliance matters.
• Provide coaching, mentoring and on‑the‑job development for junior team members.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., BE, NZCE, business management) or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a Project or Site Engineer in the construction industry.
• Strong understanding of contract management and project delivery processes.
• Ability to influence and negotiate with clients and subcontractors.
• Knowledge of financial and accounting processes.
