Site Engineer – Control Systems

About the role

Mercury is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join its site‑based engineering team supporting geothermal power stations across New Zealand. The role provides engineering leadership and hands‑on support to operations and maintenance teams, ensuring optimal plant performance and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver control‑system and instrumentation engineering support to operations and maintenance teams.
• Analyse plant performance and design process‑control solutions to maximise availability, reliability and stability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve control and instrumentation issues on‑site.
• Contribute to OPEX/CAPEX project portfolios and develop long‑term asset‑management plans.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, company policies and engineering standards.

Required profile

• Strong operational background in control systems engineering, preferably in heavy‑industry or power‑generation environments.
• Experience with plant/control system design, risk assessment and commissioning of new or modified equipment.
• Familiarity with hazardous/explosive area requirements and functional safety principles.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA and RTU platforms.
• Understanding of control network security.
• Proficiency with communication standards such as TCP/IP, Modbus and Fieldbus.
• Experience with process‑control applications and instrumentation.
