Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack

About the role

At Westpac New Zealand’s Payments Technology team, you will help deliver end‑to‑end solutions that shape how customers interact with payments. The role sits in a fast‑moving squad that balances speed, quality and risk while navigating architectural change and new mobile/web experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain mobile applications that provide meaningful customer experiences.
• Collaborate with architecture and the wider Payments team to implement architectural changes while delivering new features.
• Contribute to technical design and architecture decisions and support teammates.
• Work closely with product, platform and engineering partners to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Share knowledge, mentor others and help grow team capability.
• Drive engineering practices around performance, security and reliability.
• Identify and implement improvements to systems, processes and delivery approaches.

Required profile

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on full‑stack development.
• Proven ability to design and build scalable, maintainable applications across front‑end and back‑end.
• Experience working in complex, parallel‑delivery environments.
• Strong testing, debugging and quality‑engineering practices.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD and DevOps pipelines on cloud platforms.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication and collaboration skills.
• Customer‑focused mindset and ability to integrate AI responsibly into engineering workflows.
