Senior Rural Generalist Medical Officer

About the role

The West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island is seeking a Senior Rural Generalist Medical Officer to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team. You will deliver high‑quality, equitable health care across a broad clinical scope in a unique, remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary, urgent, and emergency care to the coastal community.
• Manage general medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, and obstetrics/gynaecology cases.
• Collaborate with in‑house specialists and external partners for comprehensive patient management.
• Support the Rural Generalist model by delivering consistent, high‑standard services across multiple sites.
• Participate in community health initiatives and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Required profile

• Vocational registration (e.g., FDRHMNZ or FRNZCGP) with a commitment to dual fellowship or pathway toward it.
• Eligibility to obtain registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
• Demonstrated interest in rural generalism and broad clinical practice.
• Ability to work flexibly within a multidisciplinary team.
