About the role
Auckland Council is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager – Māori Outcomes to lead the delivery of medium to high‑complexity capital works and renewals projects that support the council’s Māori Outcomes Strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Lead end‑to‑end delivery of capital works projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget and to high quality standards.
- Provide technical input during project planning and business case development to support effective scoping and execution.
- Manage procurement, consultants and contractors while building strong relationships with Māori businesses and delivery partners.
- Oversee financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control and accurate reporting.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, governance and council frameworks, and drive continuous improvement.
- Mentor and support project team members, fostering a collaborative and safe working environment.
Required profile
- At least 10 years’ experience delivering capital works and renewals projects.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, construction, architecture or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of procurement, contract management, site monitoring, health and safety and risk management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience in political environments.
- Ability to work across multiple projects, navigate ambiguity and make sound decisions.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to mātauranga Māori; te reo Māori knowledge is a plus.
- Current New Zealand driver’s licence.
Required skills
- Project management certification such as PRINCE2 or PMP.
- Experience with SAP systems (desirable).
- Experience with Sentient systems (desirable).
