Senior Project Manager

About the role

Mercury is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of geothermal drilling and well‑intervention projects that support the growth and performance of its renewable generation portfolio. Based in Rotorua, you will own projects from mobilisation through to well completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary project teams delivering geothermal drilling, well construction and well‑intervention projects.
• Maintain delivery momentum when scope, technical requirements or priorities change.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, procurement strategies and commercial risks.
• Understand cost implications of delays and drive timely decisions.
• Hold contractors and internal stakeholders accountable for agreed commitments.
• Identify and escalate emerging issues early, providing practical options and recommendations.
• Build effective relationships across engineering, geology, operations, contractors and business stakeholders.
• Support and mentor junior Project Managers and Engineers.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager in a fast‑moving, commercially exposed environment.
• Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and rapidly re‑planning when conditions change.
• Strong stakeholder communication and ability to bring people together to reach clear decisions.
• Not required to be a geothermal or drilling specialist – you will work alongside experienced engineers and geologists.
