Senior Power Technician

About the role

Ventia is seeking an experienced Senior Power Technician to join its Projects team, working on high‑voltage substation upgrades and new builds for Transpower and other clients. The role can be based in Wellington or Palmerston North and involves extensive travel across the Hawke’s Bay, Wellington and Palmerston North regions.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out fault finding, installation, testing and programming of high‑voltage substation equipment.
• Manage the installation and commissioning of transformers, switchgear and other electrical assets.
• Perform quality checks, audits and support maintenance activities as required.
• Interpret manuals, schematics and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
• Undertake end‑to‑end tasks for allocated jobs while adhering to OH&S standards.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience working with high‑voltage power assets.
• Diploma/Bachelor in Electrical Engineering or an electrical licence/certificate.
• Current registration (full, provisional or limited) with the Electrical Workers Registration Board.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
