Senior Mobile Engineer (iOS)

About the role

Air New Zealand is looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to shape the iOS experience for millions of travellers. You will lead the design and delivery of high‑quality iOS applications using Swift and SwiftUI, working within a high‑performing product team driving the airline’s digital transformation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain robust iOS applications at scale.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to turn ideas into intuitive solutions.
• Improve app performance, reliability and maintainability, delivering measurable speed and stability gains.
• Identify and resolve complex bugs and performance challenges.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, shaping secure and future‑ready mobile platforms.
• Champion modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, automated testing and continuous improvement.
• Mentor and support other mobile engineers, fostering a strong engineering culture.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of iOS development experience, preferably in large‑scale or complex environments.
• Deep expertise in Swift and SwiftUI with a focus on clean, maintainable code.
• Experience with backend‑for‑frontend patterns and exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) is a plus.
• Strong understanding of mobile architecture, design patterns and Apple UI guidelines.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices.
• Proven problem‑solving ability in fast‑paced, evolving environments.
• Experience using AI tooling to enhance development workflows.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience.
