Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will join Cubic Defense’s New Zealand team, contributing mechanical expertise to multi‑disciplinary product development for military training systems. Reporting to the Engineering Director and working closely with production and testing groups, the role covers the full lifecycle from concept through manufacture and sustainment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, design, develop and implement mechanical components and subsystems in accordance with defence, quality and regulatory standards.
• Generate complete manufacturing packages for in‑house production, international factories or subcontractors.
• Participate in product design reviews with internal and external stakeholders to ensure right‑first‑time delivery.
• Assemble prototypes and engineering validation samples, verify BOMs, drawings and part numbers for accurate product definition.
• Support product life‑cycle activities, including configuration management, quality assurance and cost‑effective manufacturing.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior mechanical engineering roles within defence or related high‑tech industries.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multi‑national, cross‑functional engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of product development processes, configuration management and regulatory compliance.
• Experience delivering designs from concept to production and providing ongoing lifecycle support.
