Senior Mechanical / Energy Modelling Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical / Energy Modelling Engineer to join our collaborative team and deliver low‑carbon, high‑performance solutions for a range of building projects across New Zealand. You will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams, applying technical expertise while keeping broader sustainability goals in mind.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and document HVAC systems using BIM tools such as Revit and IES VE.
• Incorporate energy‑efficiency, decarbonisation and low‑carbon design principles into mechanical solutions.
• Perform predictive modelling of heating and cooling loads and dynamic simulations for comfort metrics (glare, daylight, overheating, natural ventilation, PMV).
• Explore and evaluate thermal envelope strategies to optimise building performance.
• Conduct compliance modelling for building codes and green rating systems (G7, H1, Green Star, NABERSNZ).
• Model operational energy use (heating, cooling, lighting, appliances) and benchmark associated carbon emissions.
• Prepare, deliver and review design reports and technical outputs.
• Mentor junior engineers and building scientists, and support client relationship management.

Required profile

• 4‑7 years of experience on building mechanical projects with strong knowledge of standards and documentation compliance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Science.
• Proven ability to lead design packages and collaborate with senior engineers.
