Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Professor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

About the role

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Otago’s Faculty of Medicine in Dunedin invites applications for a senior academic position (Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor) commencing November 2026. The appointment is permanent, part‑time (0.5 FTE) and will involve teaching, research and service across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver research‑informed teaching in pregnancy, gynaecology and women’s health for MBChB years 3, 5 and 6, as well as postgraduate certificates, diplomas and research degrees.
• Contribute to curriculum design, assessment development and supervision of research students.
• Lead or expand an active research programme, publish in peer‑reviewed journals and secure external research funding.
• Collaborate with Otago’s obstetrics and gynaecology departments in Christchurch and Wellington.
• Engage with the University’s Māori Strategic Framework and uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Required profile

• Professional health practitioner qualification and registration.
• Preferably a higher research degree (PhD or equivalent).
• Demonstrated commitment to Māori health and the University’s strategic priorities.
• Experience teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, with potential for curriculum development and postgraduate supervision.
• Evidence of, or strong potential for, internationally peer‑reviewed research and competitive grant acquisition.
