Senior Lawyer – Auckland or Wellington

About the role

ANZ is seeking a Senior Lawyer to join its Legal team in Auckland or Wellington. The role provides high‑quality, commercially focused legal advice that supports ANZ’s strategy and helps embed legal considerations into business decisions and customer solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver timely, practical legal support across a range of initiatives and business projects.
• Provide clear, commercially focused advice to enable sound decision‑making and manage legal risk.
• Partner with product, risk and other business stakeholders to identify and address legal issues early.
• Support regulatory and policy compliance, ensuring alignment with legal obligations and internal standards.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders to protect ANZ’s interests.
• Promote a proactive, risk‑aware culture through guidance and thought leadership.

Required profile

• At least 5 years post‑qualification experience in a top‑tier New Zealand law firm or large organisation, preferably within banking, financial services or another regulated industry.
• Proven ability to provide pragmatic, commercially relevant legal advice in a complex environment.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Curious, pragmatic problem‑solving mindset and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Collaborative approach and commitment to an inclusive workplace culture.
