Senior IT Systems Engineer

About the role

PowerNet is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to lead the design, implementation and support of its critical IT infrastructure. Based at the head office in Invercargill, you will work closely with the IT team, Cyber Security Engineer, Operational Technology team, vendors and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Active Directory and Microsoft Entra environments.
• Administer servers, virtualization platforms, storage and network infrastructure.
• Provide Tier 3 technical support and lead escalation efforts.
• Lead and contribute to ICT projects, system improvements and after‑hours standby roster.
• Support and mentor IT Service Technicians.
• Collaborate to improve system performance, reliability and security.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and standards.

Required profile

• Tertiary IT qualification and/or relevant industry certifications.
• Minimum 5 years experience in systems engineering, infrastructure or technology solutions.
• Strong experience with Microsoft technologies, server administration, networking and virtualization.
• Hands‑on experience with Linux and Kubernetes environments.
• Proven troubleshooting, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience delivering IT projects and driving continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication skills and a passion for mentoring.
