Senior Flight Software Engineer (Electron)

About the role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Flight Software Engineer to develop, maintain and support the critical software systems for the Electron launch vehicle and its kick‑stage. You will work on avionics, telemetry, command handling and guidance, navigation and control algorithms, ensuring reliable performance for every mission.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and test embedded flight software for the Electron rocket and kick‑stage.
• Develop software that operates avionics, manages telemetry and command links, and hosts GNC algorithms.
• Own core areas of the Electron flight software architecture and lead major projects to increase launch cadence.
• Ensure software reliability and flexibility through rigorous design reviews, verification, and hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams while maintaining high quality standards.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in embedded software development using C and C++.
• Proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑priority environment.
• Experience with software version control using Git.
• Strong understanding of embedded Linux deployment (e.g., Yocto) and network protocols (UDP/TCP).
