About the role
We are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to ensure accurate, complete, and compliant financial reporting for a leading indigenous tertiary institution in New Zealand. You will support strong financial controls, budgeting, forecasting and provide insightful analysis to guide strategic decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare annual financial statements and ensure compliance with PBE/IPSAS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support budgeting, re‑forecasting and financial planning processes.
- Produce high‑quality management and governance reports, including variance analysis.
- Provide expert technical accounting advice across the organisation.
- Manage treasury activities, including cash‑flow oversight.
- Assist with financial system improvements and change initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with auditors, leadership teams and other stakeholders.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or a related field.
- Chartered Accountant (CA ANZ) or equivalent qualification.
- 7+ years of accounting experience with strong knowledge of financial reporting standards.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking.
- Willingness to engage in Māori cultural activities and develop understanding of Āhuatanga Māori.
