Senior Environmental Advisor – 2 Year Fixed Term

About the role

The Senior Advisor – Environment provides functional environmental support to the Waihi underground gold operation. Reporting to the Sustainability Department, the role ensures compliance with statutory acts, regulations, consent conditions and OceanaGold’s internal standards while driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the operation in meeting all regulatory and company environmental requirements.
• Manage, coach and develop direct reports to achieve performance goals.
• Monitor regulatory changes and keep the site updated on obligations.
• Liaise with consultants, auditors and legal advisors to achieve environmental targets.
• Provide specialist environmental advice to projects and personnel.
• Represent the Sustainability Department at site meetings and present environmental information to internal and external audiences.
• Participate in the annual site Peer Review process.
• Deliver training and awareness programs on regulatory obligations.
• Maintain relationships with external stakeholders and identify improvement opportunities.
• Monitor, assess and report on environmental aspects of the operation, contributing to departmental and site reporting.
• Support the preparation of consent applications as required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in environmental compliance within the mining or heavy‑industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand environmental legislation, consent conditions and industry standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a small team.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret regulatory changes and translate them into operational actions.
