Senior Design Manager

About the role

APD Global is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead high‑value, complex design projects within its Substations team across New Zealand. The role combines strategic delivery ownership with client‑facing responsibilities and contributes to business development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead EPC and EPC‑style design projects, owning programme, cost, quality, risk and contractual outcomes.
• Develop and execute delivery strategies that integrate design with procurement and construction.
• Make priority and trade‑off decisions to protect commercial and delivery performance.
• Drive recovery plans for distressed projects and mitigate high‑impact design and constructability risks.
• Support business development by winning and retaining higher‑value contracts.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large‑scale engineering design projects in EPC environments.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to influence senior client and internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated track record of delivering predictable outcomes and managing project risk.
