Senior Counselling Lecturer

About the role

The School of Health & Counselling at Manukau Institute of Technology and Unitec is seeking a Senior Counselling Lecturer to join its team. This permanent, full‑time position involves delivering high‑quality teaching, supporting student wellbeing, and contributing to programme development across the Manukau and Ōtara campuses.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, student‑centred teaching and learning activities.
• Develop, moderate and mark assessments while maintaining accurate student records.
• Identify and respond to diverse learner needs, supporting retention and success.
• Participate in programme review, quality assurance and curriculum development.
• Engage with industry, community partners and research initiatives to keep the programme relevant.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of counselling practice and/or teaching experience.
• Membership with NZAC or NZCCA and, if applicable, a current practising certificate.
• Master’s qualification in counselling (or working towards) and a relevant Bachelor’s degree.
• Commitment to obtaining a tertiary teaching qualification if not already held.
• Experience in student assessment, course delivery and programme development.
• Strong organisational, digital and communication skills.
