Senior Corporate Counsel

About the role

Join Fonterra’s global Legal team as a Senior Corporate Counsel, providing senior legal advice to the Ingredients and Foodservice businesses worldwide (excluding Greater China). You will partner with business leaders to support strategic projects, negotiate commercial agreements and manage legal risk across a high‑value, complex portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on commercial, strategic and operational legal matters for global markets.
• Support major business projects, transactions and initiatives across the Ingredients and Foodservice divisions.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, delivering pragmatic business‑focused solutions.
• Lead and support litigation and dispute matters as required.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, contributing to strategic decision‑making.
• Build strong relationships across the Co‑op and the broader legal team.
• Deliver legal training and capability‑building initiatives for the business.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent qualification) and a current New Zealand practising certificate.
• At least 8 years post‑qualification experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
• Extensive experience supporting large organisations with complex commercial and business law matters.
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to view legal issues through a business lens.
• Excellent negotiation, influencing and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused approach with the agility to thrive in a dynamic environment.
