Senior Cloud Engineer

About the role

This senior position sits within ANZ’s Payments Engineering Delivery Platform squad, responsible for the reliability, scalability and performance of the bank’s payments platforms. The role focuses on cloud database engineering, performance optimisation, compliance and developer enablement.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and optimise cloud‑native databases on GCP and AWS.
• Automate workflows and infrastructure using Terraform and scripting.
• Embed compliance, governance and cost‑optimisation controls into platform services.
• Collaborate with developers and platform engineers to ensure high availability and performance.
• Implement monitoring, logging, tracing and incident‑management processes.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with major cloud platforms (GCP, AWS).
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Codefresh or similar).
• Solid understanding of cloud security, IAM, secrets management and network security.
• Experience with automation scripting (Python, Ansible) and cloud cost‑optimisation (FinOps).
• Ability to work collaboratively, influence best practices and support continuous improvement.
