Senior Back-End Software Engineer – 6‑Month Remote Contract

About the role

We are looking for a senior back‑end engineer to design and deliver core services for a fast‑growing IoT equipment platform. The role is fully remote, lasts six months, and works within an international team that values ownership, technical quality, and continuous learning.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and ship backend features for a complex IoT platform.
• Build scalable, high‑throughput services that handle large data volumes.
• Write clean, reusable code with strong emphasis on reliability and test coverage.
• Develop unit tests, maintain code‑quality standards and support QA during testing cycles.
• Contribute to API design, database schema, performance tuning and micro‑services architecture decisions.
• Collaborate with product, QA and leadership teams to define and deliver new functionality.
• Participate in agile delivery practices and mentor junior engineers through code reviews.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and Node.js.
• Experience with HTML/CSS in full‑stack contexts.
• Background in C#.NET or Python with willingness to work in a Node.js stack.
• Solid SQL skills; exposure to NoSQL databases is a plus.
• Hands‑on experience designing and delivering micro‑services.
• Proficiency with Docker and container‑based deployments.
• Practical experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, VPC, Elasticsearch, Kinesis).
• Familiarity with message‑queue systems such as RabbitMQ.
• Experience building large‑scale data systems.
• Clear communication style, structured thinking and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• IoT platform experience and New Zealand working rights are advantageous.
