Job description

About the role

PwC New Zealand is hiring a Senior Analyst for its Finance, Economics and Analytics team within Consulting, based in Pōneke (Wellington). The team uses data, analysis and commercial insight to help clients understand complex problems and make better decisions, working as a team to analyse performance, identify financial and operational drivers, build financial models and business cases, assess strategic options and turn complex information into practical recommendations.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver analytical and consulting projects across industries, combining quantitative analysis, research, operational insights and commercial thinking.
  • Work with large or complex datasets to find trends, patterns and performance drivers, and develop hypotheses to explain them.
  • Build a richer understanding of organisational, service or portfolio performance from financial, operational and other data.
  • Carry out financial modelling, forecasting, cost-benefit analysis, performance analysis and economic analysis to support decision-making.
  • Turn data, research and stakeholder views into clear insights and practical recommendations, and present findings visually to senior decision-makers.
  • Coach, develop and supervise junior team members, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in the corporate, government, regulated or consulting sectors, using quantitative analysis to solve complex business problems.
  • Experience on complex analytical, performance, strategy, financial, economic or commercial projects.
  • Degree in a quantitative or analytical discipline (economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, data analytics, engineering or similar) preferred; postgraduate qualifications advantageous.
  • Independence review required; the firm is not partnering with recruitment agencies and encourages direct applications.

Required skills

  • Strong analytical capability: structuring ambiguous problems, interrogating data, testing hypotheses and drawing conclusions.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence with complex datasets.
  • Advantageous: data visualisation or tools such as Power BI, SQL or Python.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, explaining complex ideas clearly.

What we offer

  • Discretionary bonus opportunities, referral bonuses and retail discounts.
  • Global network, leadership development, AI tools and training, and formal learning pathways.
  • $250 annual wellbeing allowance, life and income protection, EAP, 15 days' paid sick leave and group-rate health insurance.
  • Flexible working, two paid recognition days per year and the option to buy up to two extra weeks of annual leave.
  • Paid parental leave, inclusive networks and paid volunteering leave.
