Security Engineer

About the role

We are partnering with a respected New Zealand organisation that is heavily investing in cyber security. The Security Engineer will work across cloud, infrastructure and security operations to protect critical systems and drive continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, investigate and respond to security incidents, threats and vulnerabilities across the technology estate.
• Design and implement security controls to strengthen cloud, network and endpoint security.
• Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to embed security into projects and operational processes.
• Lead vulnerability management activities, prioritising and remediating risk with stakeholders.
• Manage and optimise key security technologies, including Microsoft security tooling, firewalls and email protection.
• Identify opportunities to automate, improve and mature security capabilities across the organisation.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience in a Security Engineer, Security Analyst or Security Operations role.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft security technologies (Defender, Sentinel, Entra ID) or equivalent cloud security platforms.
• Experience with network security, firewalls, endpoint protection and vulnerability management.
• Working knowledge of Azure, Windows and Linux environments.
• Exposure to scripting or automation using Python or Ansible is advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
• Understanding of secure coding principles, strong problem‑solving abilities and experience in Agile delivery environments.
