Response Operator – Parks & Grounds Maintenance

About the role

Green by Nature is seeking a versatile Response Operator to join its Tararua team in Dannevirke. This hands‑on position involves keeping local parks, reserves and public areas safe, tidy and well maintained while supporting a range of response and repair tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Perform gardening and horticulture duties such as planting, pruning and general grounds upkeep.
• Operate mowers and related equipment across parks, reserves and open spaces.
• Assist with reactive maintenance and repair work for council assets.
• Provide coverage for the wider team during busy periods and staff leave.

Required profile

• Positive, flexible attitude with willingness to work across varied duties.
• Experience in gardening, horticulture, mowing or outdoor maintenance is preferred but not essential.
• Comfort operating equipment or a strong desire to learn.
• Full, clean driver’s licence; ability to drive manual vehicles and tow trailers is highly desirable.
