Response Operator

About the role

Green by Nature is seeking a hands‑on Response Operator to join its Masterton team. This cross‑functional position supports a variety of outdoor tasks, from gardening and mowing to reactive repairs of council assets, ensuring public parks and reserves remain safe and well‑maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Perform gardening and horticulture duties such as planting, pruning and general grounds maintenance.
• Operate mowers and related equipment across parks, reserves and open spaces.
• Carry out reactive maintenance on council assets including public bathrooms, benches, bollards and boardwalks.
• Assist the wider team during busy periods and cover for annual leave as needed.
• Adapt to a changing daily workload, with no two days looking the same.

Required profile

• Positive, flexible attitude with willingness to work across varied duties.
• Experience in gardening, horticulture, mowing or outdoor maintenance (preferred but not essential).
• Comfort operating equipment or a strong willingness to learn.
• Strong work ethic and pride in delivering quality outcomes for the community.
• Full, clean driver’s licence; ability to drive manual vehicles and tow trailers is highly desirable.
