Residential Solar Design Engineer

About the role

Home Solutions is expanding its residential solar and whole‑of‑home energy offerings and is looking for an experienced Residential Solar Design Engineer to join the Design Services team in Auckland. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality, technically excellent solar designs for residential customers.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed solar energy system designs that meet technical, regulatory, and residential standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Installation, Service, Sales, and Haier Group teams to ensure end‑to‑end quality outcomes.
• Engage directly with project specifications, drawings, and costings, taking ownership from design through to winning new work.
• Support continual improvement of design processes and build the internal knowledge base.
• Perform residential solar PV system design, energy modelling, and HVAC/hot‑water system considerations.
• Create detailed drawings, load calculations, and evaluate ducting/piping systems.
• Develop customer‑centric solutions aligned with the Home Solutions strategy.

Required profile

• 3+ years’ experience designing and/or installing solar systems (HVAC/hot‑water experience highly advantageous).
• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Strong understanding of AS/NZS standards (4777, 5033, 5139, 4509, etc.).
• Knowledge of building codes and residential construction practices.
• Confidence using solar and energy modelling software (e.g., SolarPlus, PVSyst, TRNSYS, Revit).
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
