Regulatory Compliance Team Leader

About the role
Reporting to the Group Manager Regulatory Services, you will lead and support a team responsible for delivering a diverse range of compliance activities across the district. This role influences outcomes that protect public health, support sustainable development and maintain safe, thriving communities throughout the Buller District.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop compliance staff to achieve high performance and professional growth.
- Manage team workloads, recruitment, training and performance programmes.
- Oversee regulatory compliance activities across environmental health, resource management and building compliance.
- Manage the Council's environmental health contractor to ensure statutory obligations are met.
- Support investigations, monitoring programmes and enforcement activities under relevant legislation.
- Provide technical guidance and regulatory advice to staff, customers and stakeholders.
- Maintain compliance registers, records and monitoring programmes to high standards.
- Contribute to policy development, business planning and budget processes.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing people in a workplace environment.
- Experience in regulatory compliance, environmental health, building, planning or related fields.
- Sound knowledge of legislation, regulations, compliance processes and enforcement principles.
- Strong organisational, investigative and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A current New Zealand driver’s licence.
