Registered Nurse – Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU)

About the role

Ormiston Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join its Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) on a permanent, full‑time basis. The role operates on a flexible roster with late‑start options, allowing you to balance morning commitments while supporting peak afternoon recovery periods.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality nursing care to patients emerging from anaesthesia in the PACU.
• Coordinate patient discharge, ensuring accurate completion of procedure‑specific information sheets.
• Educate patients and their whānau about post‑operative care and recovery expectations.
• Communicate effectively with Stage 1 recovery staff, surgeons, and anaesthetists.
• Step into Stage 1 recovery when required to maintain seamless service.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives and update discharge documentation.

Required profile

• Current NZ Nursing Council Practising Certificate and valid work rights for New Zealand.
• Minimum two years of post‑graduate experience in a PACU or similar recovery setting.
• Proven clinical competence and commitment to evidence‑based practice.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team‑focused attitude.
• Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
• Experience in orthopaedics, plastics, laparoscopic, gynaecology, urology or general surgery is highly desirable.
