Public Health Physician – Cancer Control (Wellington)

About the role

The Cancer Control Agency (Te Aho o Te Kahu) is seeking a Public Health Physician to join its Knowledge Translation and Implementation team in Wellington. This five‑month fixed‑term position will provide strategic and operational leadership to advance cancer control initiatives across Aotearoa.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality strategic and operational advice to senior agency leaders, including the Chief Executive.
• Lead coordination, critical analysis and recommendation development for the agency’s cancer control work programme.
• Communicate clearly and succinctly with internal teams, the Ministry of Health, external stakeholders and government partners.
• Support delivery of government and agency priorities, ensuring alignment with Treaty of Waitangi obligations and equity principles.
• Build collaborative relationships across the health sector, fostering a whānau‑centred, equity‑led approach.

Required profile

• Registered medical practitioner with a current Annual Practising Certificate.
• Vocational registration as a specialist medical practitioner in a relevant specialty (e.g., FNZCPHM, FAFPHM).
• Experience in screening or the cancer sector is desirable.
• Knowledge of government processes and strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to analyse complex technical information.
