Project Manager - Water

About the role

Stantec is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join its Water team in Christchurch. The role will lead delivery of complex water infrastructure projects, including drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and dam/hydropower initiatives. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to client expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution and delivery of three‑waters projects from concept through construction.
• Manage project budgets, schedules and financial performance, ensuring profitability.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants and internal specialists to define project scopes and deliverables.
• Support bids and proposals, contributing technical and commercial input.
• Oversee design, procurement, construction management and asset‑management activities.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, health, safety and environmental standards.
• Mentor junior staff and foster collaboration across engineering disciplines.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years’ experience in engineering consultancy or project management, delivering complex water infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules and client relationships.
• Strong organisational, time‑management and financial competency.
• Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is essential.
• Ability to work effectively within high‑performing, multidisciplinary teams.
