Project Manager – Minor Capital Works (Facilities Management)

About the role

The University of Canterbury is seeking a Project Manager to lead minor capital works within its Facilities Management division. You will be responsible for delivering a diverse portfolio of construction and capital development projects across the campus, ensuring safety, quality, and alignment with the university’s teaching and research objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver capital works projects from planning through to completion.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and risk registers.
• Coordinate contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor project performance, produce progress reports, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Oversee procurement and contract administration processes.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and conduct project reviews.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering construction, facilities, or capital works projects in complex stakeholder environments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong planning, budgeting, and risk‑management capabilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on meeting deadlines.
• Relevant tertiary qualification and alignment with the university’s inclusive values.

Required skills

• Microsoft Project (or equivalent project‑scheduling software).
