Project Manager – Capital Projects

About the role

Fonterra is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join its Portfolio Leadership Team. The role is responsible for delivering multiple large, complex capital projects that support the company’s strategic objectives, with regular travel across New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and tactical leadership for assigned capital projects.
• Establish and lead project and delivery teams, including permanent and contingent resources.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to agreed quality and scope.
• Oversee governance, risk management, and performance reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with construction partners and contractors, managing expectations and performance.
• Continuously improve project management capability across the portfolio.
• Apply Group Project Management Standards and meet internal and external assurance requirements.

Required profile

• Proven leadership in delivering large‑scale capital projects in complex environments.
• Strong commercial acumen and sound judgement.
• Ability to lead multiple projects concurrently across different delivery phases.
• Experience mentoring and developing project teams.
• Tertiary engineering degree or equivalent.
• Recognised project‑management certification (e.g., PMI, PRINCE2, IMPA).

Required skills

• Construction contract management and understanding of delivery contractual formats.
• Project Management methodologies and certification (PMI, PRINCE2, IMPA).
