Project Engineer

About the role

This hands‑on Project Engineer role leads design and delivery of maintenance and capital projects across Network Waitaki’s electricity distribution network. You will own projects from scoping and detailed design through construction to close‑out, ensuring safety and reliability for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Lead detailed design and delivery of maintenance and capital projects in line with Network Waitaki standards and industry best practice.
• Manage project financials, including cost estimates, budgets, accruals and forecasting.
• Run tender processes, evaluate responses and manage contracts with specialist providers.
• Coordinate internal teams and external contractors to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering standards and design processes.

Required profile

• Relevant trade, technical or tertiary qualification in electricity supply, engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in New Zealand electricity distribution (ideally sub‑station and protection/communications design) or a similar utility environment.
• Proven technical, electrical design and project management experience.
• Experience in project financial management, tendering and contract management.
• Sound understanding of the regulated electricity distribution sector, including the Electricity Act and Safety Manual.
• Commitment to safety and ability to work effectively under pressure.
