Project Engineer – Industrial Automation

About the role

ABB is looking for a Project Engineer to act as the design authority for engineering deliverables across software‑focused industrial projects. You will work on the full lifecycle of projects, from system design to installation and remote support, ensuring compliance with contract, quality, safety and cybersecurity standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement DCS/PLC control systems, covering concept development, configuration, validation, installation and commissioning.
• Develop and modify IEC 61131‑based control software, integrating it with system architecture and functional design specifications.
• Configure and verify industrial communication networks, applying engineering guidelines and performing rigorous verification.
• Troubleshoot and optimise control system applications while maintaining up‑to‑date technical knowledge of ICT solutions and development tools.
• Create and maintain local application guidelines, libraries and demo systems for development, training, testing and diagnostics.
• Support project delivery through strong customer engagement, safe work practices and contribution to proposals and technical documentation.

Required profile

• Mandatory experience with ABB Automation systems.
• Electrical or Electronic Engineering qualification.
• Sound knowledge of industrial control systems used in power generation, oil & gas downstream processing, and pulp & paper industries.
• Understanding of industrial IT networks, domains and Windows operating systems.
• Experience with virtual server environments such as VMware and ESXi.
• Familiarity with fieldbus communication protocols, e.g., ProfiBus.
