Professor of Sport Leadership

About the role

The University of Canterbury invites applications for a permanent full‑time Professor position in Sport Leadership within the Faculty of Health. The role combines high‑quality teaching, research leadership and service to the sport sector.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in sport leadership, strategic management and organisational behaviour.
• Develop and coordinate curricula and courses that prepare students for leadership roles in sport.
• Advance the Faculty’s research profile by leading a coherent research agenda, securing external funding and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations.
• Supervise Masters and PhD students and mentor new supervisors.
• Engage with industry, government and community stakeholders to build partnerships and enhance the impact of research and teaching.

Required profile

• Completed PhD in Sport Leadership or Sport Management.
• Extensive senior academic experience, preferably at university level.
• Strong national and international reputation in sport leadership research.
• Proven record of successful research supervision and mentorship.
• Established networks with sport organisations, government and community sectors in New Zealand.
