Principal Software Engineer

About the role

Arlo is looking for its most senior technical contributor to drive innovation and excellence across the business. This strategic, hands‑on hybrid role combines architectural leadership with active coding, mentorship, and people management.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the CTO, Founding Chief Technologist, Product and UX teams to define scalable, secure, and reliable solutions across frontend, backend, and cloud platforms.
• Write production code, conduct research and development, and build prototypes or proofs of concept, leveraging the latest AI tools.
• Set and uphold high standards for coding, architecture, and operational excellence while guiding engineers toward best practices.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and career development for a direct‑report Staff Engineer and foster a collaborative, high‑performing culture.
• Ensure all technical designs align with the organization’s technology vision and strategic goals.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience designing, building, and managing complex solutions, preferably in high‑growth SaaS or scale‑up environments.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset with end‑to‑end ownership and the ability to make confident, well‑reasoned decisions.
• Values clarity, grit, ownership, curiosity and thrives in fast‑moving, collaborative teams.
