Platform Engineer

About the role

Westpac is continuously modernising the platforms that power its digital banking services. As a Platform Engineer you will work within the Digital tribe to deliver reliable, automated infrastructure that enables rapid delivery of customer‑facing applications.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate across organisational boundaries to provide Platform Engineering and Site Reliability expertise for applications deployed in the Digital tribe.
• Design, build and maintain CI‑CD pipelines that deploy resilient platform components and workflows.
• Develop and operate cloud‑native infrastructure using Kubernetes, Docker and related container orchestration tools.
• Contribute to system design decisions, ensuring best‑practice automation, Infrastructure as Code and security compliance.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise platform performance using observability tools such as Splunk, Prometheus and Dynatrace.
• Support engineering teams in delivering high‑quality digital applications and drive continuous improvement of delivery practices.

Required profile

• Strong Unix administration experience.
• Hands‑on knowledge of Agile, DevOps and Site Reliability practices.
• Passion for automation, Infrastructure as Code and modern delivery pipelines.
• Ability to work efficiently with software engineering teams and influence design decisions.

Required skills

• Kubernetes & Docker (container orchestration andisation).
• CI/CD tools – Jenkins or equivalent.
• IaC technologies – Helm, Terraform.
• Version control – Git, GitHub with standard workflows.
• Scripting – Bash, Python, Ruby, Java.
• Observability – Splunk, Prometheus, Dynatrace.
• Security engineering practices for automated compliance.
