Peer Support Worker

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Peer Support Worker to join Ember’s community services team in Rotorua. In this full-time, on-site position you will draw on your lived experience of mental health and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges to support individuals on their recovery journey.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and group peer support, sharing personal insights to foster hope and empowerment.
• Assist clients in setting recovery goals, developing coping strategies and accessing community resources.
• Participate in case conferences and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care.
• Maintain accurate records of interactions while respecting confidentiality.

Required profile

• Personal experience of mental health and/or AOD challenges.
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Commitment to a full-time, on-site schedule.
• Ability to work respectfully with diverse populations.

Required skills

What we offer

• Hourly rate of $25.63 – $30.70 (NZD) depending on qualifications.
• 5 days study leave and 2 days recreation leave per year.
• Double pay for work on public holidays.
• Allocated laptop, work phone and access to Ember pool vehicles for work purposes.
