Peer Support Team Leader

About the role

The Peer Support Team Leader will guide a dedicated team of Peer Support Workers who walk alongside whānau experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Based at Merge Café, a community hub on Karangahape Road, the role focuses on fostering authentic lived‑experience practice, building hope, and creating pathways to sustainable housing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, support and develop a team of Peer Support Workers.
• Provide supervision, coaching, mentoring and professional development.
• Ensure safe, effective peer‑support practice and help staff navigate complex situations.
• Build strong relationships across housing, health, homelessness and social‑service sectors.
• Champion lived‑experience leadership and contribute to workforce development.
• Contribute to service improvement, innovation and organisational learning.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership experience in peer‑support or related community services.
• Strong understanding of peer‑support practice and Te Pou CPSLE competencies.
• Relevant Level 6 or 7 qualification.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.
• Ability to build authentic relationships, inspire hope and support both whānau and staff.
