Part-time Kitchen Hand

About the role

Sofitel Wellington is seeking a friendly and energetic part‑time Kitchen Hand to join its kitchen team. This role supports the smooth operation of the kitchen by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Perform cleaning duties throughout the kitchen and food preparation areas, including utensils, equipment and work surfaces.
• Maintain workplace hygiene and safety in accordance with food‑hygiene regulations.
• Assist with ingredient assembly and basic food preparation as required.
• Clean, sanitize and store cutlery, crockery, kitchen equipment and appliances using industrial washing machines or hand‑washing methods.
• Clean walls, floors, storage areas, fridges, cool rooms and dry‑goods stores, reporting any hazards to the Executive Chef.
• Remove rubbish regularly, clean industrial bins daily and keep waste areas free of refuse.
• Perform general maintenance of the loading dock and enforce hygiene regulations.

Required profile

• Full NZ working rights.
• Professional presentation and behaviour at all times.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Physical fitness to stand up to 8 hours per shift and lift kitchen equipment over 10 kg.
• Ability to organise time efficiently and work weekends/public holidays.
• Desire to grow and progress within Sofitel.

Required skills

• Operation of industrial washing machines.
• Knowledge of food‑hygiene standards.
