Operative – General Maintenance & Operations

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Operative to join our South West team in Wellington. You will work alongside a Chargehand to carry out a wide range of routine, cyclical and emergency maintenance tasks on highways and related infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and operational duties, following specifications and risk assessments.
• Respond to emergency call‑outs and winter maintenance assignments, acting as a second man or driver’s mate.
• Assist with the use of small plant, mini excavators and other equipment as required.
• Complete paper or electronic record sheets and ensure accurate reporting.
• Maintain plant and equipment responsibly and adhere to safety procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months of relevant experience in construction or highway maintenance.
• Team player willing to work varying hours, including on‑call and winter rotas.
• Proactive, able to use own initiative and take responsibility for personal and team safety.
• Commitment to ongoing training and development.
