Operations Manager – Bus Depot (Swanson)

About the role

The Operations Manager – Swanson will lead the day‑to‑day bus operations at Ritchies’ Swanson depot in Auckland. This full‑time, on‑site position ensures that services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual and regulatory obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee scheduling, fleet utilisation and daily depot activities.
• Coordinate drivers and support staff, handling workforce planning and performance management.
• Monitor service performance, KPIs and operational efficiency, taking corrective action to minimise disruptions.
• Maintain strong relationships with customers, local stakeholders, regulators and internal teams.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety, service quality and cost management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in operations, transport or logistics management, preferably in passenger or public transport.
• Strong people leadership with ability to supervise staff, plan workforce and foster a safety‑first culture.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Solid understanding of transport safety standards, regulations and risk management.
• Problem‑solving and decision‑making ability in time‑sensitive environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency with scheduling and resource‑allocation tools.
• Basic data analysis to track KPIs and service reliability.
• Comfort using transport or fleet management systems.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel and standard office software.
