Nurse Lead

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Nurse Lead to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the University Health and Counselling Service nursing team at the University of Auckland. The role combines hands‑on nursing practice with people‑leadership in a purpose‑driven environment supporting student health and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership, professional supervision and day‑to‑day coordination for the UHCS nursing team.
• Deliver high‑quality nursing care including acute assessments, immunisations, long‑term condition management, mental health support and health screening.
• Lead clinical governance, quality‑improvement initiatives and promote evidence‑based, culturally responsive practice.
• Contribute to strategic planning and service development as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
• Mentor, coach and develop nursing staff, fostering a collaborative, high‑performing team culture.
• Support workforce planning, recruitment, performance development and operational coordination of the nursing service.
• Build strong partnerships with multidisciplinary teams and external healthcare providers to deliver seamless, student‑centred care.
• Champion equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and initiatives that improve access and outcomes for diverse student communities.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive clinical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a nursing team.
• Strong commitment to quality improvement and evidence‑based practice.
• Understanding of culturally responsive care and equity principles.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
