Night Shift Support Worker

About the role

The Night Shift Support Worker provides a safe and caring environment for residents and staff at James Liston Hostel during overnight hours. Working independently, you will uphold the hostel’s safety, security and wellbeing standards while supporting the individual needs outlined in residents’ support plans.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the hostel throughout the night, ensuring the safety and security of residents, staff and property.
• Deliver person‑centred care in line with the Tāiki principles and record all interactions in the case‑management system (Recordbase) within 24 hours.
• Report and document incidents promptly according to the Incident Management Procedure.
• Lead fire evacuations calmly and assertively when required.
• Assist residents with basic needs and respond to emergencies, including providing first‑aid care.

Required profile

• Experience working with homelessness, mental health, addiction or residential care populations.
• Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Mission’s values of Manaakitanga, Atawhai, Rangapū and Mana Tika.
• Previous night‑shift experience and ability to de‑escalate potentially volatile situations.
• Strong emotional regulation and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Current First Aid certification.
