Medical Lead

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Medical Lead to provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for the University Health and Counselling Service at the University of Auckland. The role combines hands‑on patient care with responsibility for shaping primary health services for a diverse student community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and support to medical practitioners within the service.
• Promote excellence in clinical practice, patient safety and quality improvement.
• Support clinical governance and ensure compliance with professional standards and legislation.
• Contribute to service planning, operational decisions and strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, counsellors, psychologists and administrative staff.
• Mentor and develop the medical team, fostering professional growth.
• Deliver direct patient consultations, maintaining high standards of care.
• Develop and implement evidence‑based healthcare practices and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Qualified medical practitioner with substantial experience in primary health care.
• Demonstrated ability to lead clinical teams and drive quality improvement.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, legislation and professional standards.
• Commitment to student wellbeing and experience working in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
