About the role
Medsafe is seeking a Medical Advisor or Senior Medical Advisor to provide expert clinical advice on the safety and efficacy of medicines in New Zealand. The role sits within the Clinical Risk Management branch and contributes to regulatory decision‑making and post‑market safety monitoring.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and interpret clinical evidence across the medicine lifecycle to support approval and ongoing safety decisions.
- Present clinical advice and evidence to expert advisory committees and internal Medsafe colleagues.
- Contribute to regulatory communications, improvement projects and safety monitoring initiatives.
- Collaborate with pharmaceutical companies, clinicians, health‑sector partners and external stakeholders.
- Deliver high‑quality, timely work while maintaining accurate records and clear communication.
Required profile
- Medical qualification with registration on the New Zealand Medical Council and a current Annual Practising Certificate (or ability to obtain one).
- Strong clinical judgement with experience analysing evidence and providing clear, well‑reasoned advice.
- Excellent organisational skills, able to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
- Confident communicator capable of translating complex clinical information for diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
