Manager, External Reporting & Tax

About the role

We are looking for an experienced, commercially‑minded Manager, External Reporting & Tax to join Suncorp New Zealand’s Finance team on a 13‑month fixed‑term contract covering parental leave. The role leads external financial reporting, audit coordination and tax compliance while developing a high‑performing team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver fully IFRS‑compliant financial reporting for all entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Lead the end‑to‑end external audit process, managing auditor relationships and deliverables.
• Provide technical accounting advice on new transactions, projects and evolving standards.
• Oversee all tax compliance obligations (excluding payroll tax), ensuring timely filings and payments.
• Offer expert tax advice across the business, including transactions, product development, regulatory changes and cross‑border matters.
• Lead, coach and develop a capable, engaged finance team.
• Foster a high‑performance culture and support broader Finance initiatives.

Required profile

• Commerce and/or Law degree with CA/CPA qualification.
• 8‑10+ years post‑qualification experience in financial reporting and tax, preferably in a Big 4 or corporate environment.
• Strong IFRS and tax technical expertise applied in a practical setting.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to engage, coach and influence stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Advanced Excel and strong systems capability.
• Continuous learning mindset and adaptability to change.
